In the month of November, the Khun Yuam and Mae Sariang districts are covered with a stretch of golden Bua Tong blooms. At Doi Mae U-Kho, the flowers cover the area profusely with large flowers.
Some classify it as a weed; therefore, it was acceptable clear the area to make way for farmers to plant cash crops. Fortunately, a group of researchers discovered that the Bua Tong has insect-repellent properties, so the Bua Tong, a symbol of Mae Hong Son, still decorates the hillsides.
Travelers can arrange to have campsites with food and beverages during the Bloom Festival, which is located 26 km from the Khun Yuam district on Highway 1263.
