There is no set date for the ancient Loi Krathong Festival because it falls on the night of the full moon in the twelfth lunar month. However, it is usually in November.
As lamps and candles are lit all around the area, people construct and illuminate Krathong to float in rivers. There are several contests like Miss Nopphamat and Krathong that are held near the pond at Nong Chong Kham. The ceremony of releasing candle-lit Krathong tied to balloons into the sky, Loi Krathong Sawan, takes place at Wat Pra That Doi Kong Mu.
